    I do that too but with new coworkers. Although if they turn out to be introverts I settle for just getting a hi back as we pass the first time in the work day.

    I love the challenge of getting dour people to smile. my neurosurgeon was a great cutter, but had no personality. I kept working on him and finally I got him to tell a joke. Not a good joke, but a good attempt at humor.

    I too work in retail and have had my share of customers who won’t smile or interact with you at all. Just won one of them over, he now smiles, calls me by name and thanks me when we are done. WIN!!
