My father and aunts always called it “Beggars’ Night”. The first time I heard it called that, I didn;t realize it meant trick-or-treat.
It’s no fun in the daytime. Being out at night was a big part of it.
My father said it was begging and his children wouldn’t beg. We kept plenty of candy for the beggars who DID come, though. It’s all good.
Think that maybe Tony has outfoxed me here. Can’t ever remember hearing the term Beggar’s anything as opposed to Trick or Treat.
My children are going out begging I guess. They’d be so disappointed if I said no.
Actually, a beggar simply asks for something. -Trick or treaters are threatening to play a trick on those who do not give them treats. (I doubt that most of them know that’s what it means, but that is what the wording promises.)
Sounds good to me. We have sanitation engineers, solid fuel technicians and more…
