-Saturday night in Toledo, Ohio is like being nowhere at all All through the day how the hours rush by You sit in the park and you watch the grass die! Ah, but after the sunset, the dusk and the twilight When shadows of night start to fall They roll back the sidewalk precisely at ten And people who live there are not seen again! Just two lonely truckers from Great Falls, Montana And a salesman from places unknown (-ces unknown) All huddled together in downtown Toledo To spend their big night all alone!
-You ask how I know of Toledo, Ohio? Well I spent a week there one day They’ve got entertainment to dazzle your eyes Go visit the bakery and watch the buns rise! Ah, but let’s not forget that the folks of Toledo Unselfishly gave us the scale No springs, honest weight, that’s the promise they made So smile and be thankful next time you get weighed! And “wiv and wet wiv”, let this be our motto Let’s let the sleeping dogs lie (-ping dogs lie) And here’s to the dogs of Toledo, Ohio Ladies, we bid you goodbye!-After singing that song, John Denver always got requests from former residents of Toledo. So obviously they also have a fair sense of humor
“It was Henry Ford that created the modern assembly line.”-
Of course it was, just as the Assyrians invented the ancient assembly line. I was remembering how Adam Smith wrote of division of labor lowering the cost of making pins much below that of them being made by a single person performing all the assorted tasks.-I see even Henry Ford simply improved on the assembly lines of Ransom Olds from 1901. I also remember how Eli Whitney got credit from others for his concept of interchangeable parts, allowing such assemblies to exist.-One thing for which Henry Ford is well to be praised is the fact that he listened to his workers who suggested they leave the tools where they would be needed in the assembly. Sometimes you get credit for inventing something simply by listening to the one who actually came up with the idea.
“Toledo, OH named after the city is Spain.”-The humor behind olfart’s “Where is the nation of Toledo?” isn’t fully understood unless you contemplate rshive’s statement:“Assembly Line Day is celebrated nationally in Toledo”-If it is celebrated “nationally” in Toledo, that must require Toledo to be a nation rather than a city of Ohio or old Spain.-Anyhoo, I have given their national anthem so all is well with the world.

I bet she got the set at a closeout store like Big Lots.
It features phony “historical facts” … like assembly lines being a 20th century invention.
I hope it doesn’t include a pair of underpants featuring gas power.Ew…

Agnes is great. As a life-long comics fan, I feel it is one of the most underrated strips today.

I suppose she will show everyone all of them while modeling. Probably end up in the principals office as normal.

Popularization is not invention.
