“This must be an American joke…Balm(BARM) sounds like Bomb(BOM)”-All good things are American or Australian. Why would “balm” be pronounced “barm”?ball-m is the way I most often hear it but bom would also make sense to me.-Admittedly “bomb” has that “b” on the end but we sometimes don’t pronounce it, so bom would be a reasonable pronounciation.-One thing to keep in mind is that there is nobody in the USA who can actually say “This is the right way to pronounce that word.” or “That is the wrong way to pronounce that word.”Or more precisely, there are over 300 million who can say either or both of those things, just can’t enforce it. Teachers teach the most commonly accepted pronounciations but often they are wrong (defined as "not agreeing with MY way._)-I hope Trout gets her bomb Much more fun to use than balm.and probably just as good for the skin
“David, did you know there’s no “r” in Chicargo?".“Yes, I did, Daddy. Strange isn’t it.”.Of course the truth is it isn’t an error, just unreasonable but people can communicate however they/we wish, even if they DON’T talk with a proper Southern accent as nature intended.

Yup: some people pronounce balm as BAHM – with a ‘long A’ sound.

I would hope that when Agnes grows up, she will be incredibly successful, and become her principal’s boss! Now that would be balm for the soul!
