September is mostly Summer. This year it will be 22 days of Summer and 8 days of Autumn. Yet we’re so oriented around that labor day weekend and the start of school, (at which point it no longer matters to kids what season it is,) we’ve convinced ourselves that autumn slams down like the door of a vault on the first day of September. The other three seasons work in the same way. December is mostly autumn, March is mostly winter, and June is mostly spring. Once we embrace a false impression, we don’t let go of it willingly.
