I’m guessing she might have seem the animated version of The Lion King and overheard someone mention Elton John’s name in association to his song. She may have forgotten it but filed it away in her brain to come back randomly.
You can hear a song just once and not be paying attention to it when you do, and it can still come back years later and you have no clue what it is or where you heard it! Just amazing how the brain works sometimes!
I still remember, many years ago, falling asleep with the radio on, and waking up to Elton John’s “Funeral for a Friend.” Kind of thing that leaves a lasting impression.

Or…. she might have been hearing the muffled strains of a clock radio, waking Grandma up for work, in another room….
and even slept through the DJ, saying “Here’s Elton John… with ‘Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road’.” …barely catching it subliminally.
