Oatmeal with lime Jell-O and crackers, sounds like a buffet style party dish I tried once. My guess is the one who brought the lime Jell-O salad made the dish under protest.
I grew up poor, but didn’t realize it at the time… and we never went hungry – even without welfare, food stamps, etc. Plain fare and sometimes obtained with a rifle.

I remember having to make a bologna sandwich with crackers because we were out of bread and I had no money for the school lunch.

Got to give grandma credit for creativity, we know where Agnes gets hers
Oatmeal, lime jello and crackers might not sound like much but its more than some kids get for dinner
I would have just served them seperately, but I’m not creative

At least Grandma and Agnes have good imaginations.

Oatmeal and lime jello on crackers? Why not call that Slippery Jane?

This makes me reminisce about my childhood. Except for the lime Jello. Didn’t have that, either.

This strip goes a long way towards explaining the thinking behind Agnes’ strange recipes.
