I can remember, as a child, my family getting those humungous Montgomery-Ward catalogues in the mail. My favorite sections were toys, art supplies, and children’s shoes, and was PO’d at the huge amount of space devoted to ladies’ fashions.
Santa brought an authentic Montgomery Ward’s mini-bike for my son when he was about 7. He rode that thing all over the farm for years. It wasn’t vintage then. (My son just turned 56).
I rebuilt and restored engines for vintage minibikes for a while. There seemed to be no limit on how much owners would pay. I didn’t overcharge, but getting original parts, and machine shop services was very expensive. $1000 for a five horse Tecumseh wasn’t uncommon. I’m sure a vintage Monkey Wards minibike would be very valuable.
for once it would be nice if she got something that worked. What happened to the money gma got from that electric guitar she got out of the trash that was worth a lot of $ ?
Montgomery Ward was the main force behind Chicago’s beautiful lakefront and lakefront parks. He worked to reserve the land for all the people and not allow buildings or train tracks along the lake. I don’t know much about the rest of his life, but in that respect, he was truly amazing.

After last Friday’s strip, you can be sure that Granny Sour Lemon won’t let Agnes keep that thing.
