    I had a catalog a while ago that offered the option of buying gifts and shipping them directly to the recipient “gift wrapped” in a plastic bag tied shut with a big ribbon. They made it sound like it was a good thing. My first thought was it was a trash bag.

    Actually festive stickers came first the first wrapping papers were tissue with festive stickers to put on them and you had to make your own bows with ribbon
