There is an old tradition in the South, if you eat Hoppin’ Johns on New Year’s Day, you will have good luck in the coming year.
Hoppin’ Johns – rice, black eyed peas, collard greens, onions, celery, and bell peppers – and I always add mushrooms because… because I want to!
This year I decided to try cooking them in the crock pot, but the rice came out mushy. I hope that doesn’t mess up the good luck. And I hereby share all the good luck I accrue by eating this yummy (but mushy) food with all who need it!
It’s really easy to share intangibles, isn’t it? So enjoy your increased good luck, y’all!
Happy New Year to you and all you love!
