Personally, like Voltaire, I’m a free speech absolutist. I could never conceive of flagging any comment. I also don’t think I would ever post anything that was “flaggable” (at least that reasonable people would deem offensive.) The problem is that a lot of people on GoComics don’t appear to be reasonable: reading comments on the editorial cartoons is often downright depressing! All the kindergarten name-calling, all the conspiracy theorists, all the DRECK.

It looks like Gweedo is permanently banned. That’s a great pity. At least his profile is still accessible!

GoComics clearly made the WRONG decision letting individuals like you have the ability to comment.

What in the world could Gweedo have said to get permanently banned? What kind of comment could be so monstrous? I’d love to read it, but that’s just me. And can’t he just open an account under another name [as has been done here before]?As Linguist pointed out, some of the comments by the mean spirited political fanatics on Doonesbury make one wonder how anyone could get banned.

Good Evening Cappers! Thank you for linking me here, six, although I was working my way here. You are right. This one is very funny.

I’m sorry to hear about Gweedo Murray. I don’t know how the ban system works here. I’ve seen some pretty offensive posts by many other regulars, but they seem to stay on.As for changing names, I have seen that happen. We have lurkers who were once banned who only post enough to let us know they are still around, with a slightly modified moniker.Such posters seem to want to be seen as someone unfairly maligned, while others who are banned truly are banned without justifiable cause.
