I’ve just been reading the replies to my comments on Saint Patrick’s Day. I see that rjm says that he didn’t realise I lived in Chester. I have mentioned it a few times before on this website as I have referred to pubs in Chester and to other local pubs such as Swan With Two Necks in Tarporley.
Happydog says that he hasn’t been to Chester but has been to Colchester which also has Roman history. Chester was originally called Castor Deva meaning “Fortress on the Dee”. This refers to the River Dee in Wales and North West England. There is another River Dee in Scotland. Colchester was named after a British leader named Coel who may also have been the inspiration for Old King Cole.
