I can hear Affie saying ‘’this is a variation on theme’‘. I don’t think he would tell us it was funny, but he would be letting us know the green grocer van would be coming up the street tonight and until then he’d be staying hydrated.
Jack can’t throw Andy out until the tab’s paid off.
We had an annoying sod who used to hang out in one of my favorite neighborhood bars, cadging drinks, starting fights, and generally being a royal PIA.
After one particular stressful evening with this guy, we complained to the owner.
“I can’t ban him until he pays ’til he pays up what he owes me,” the owner complained. “How much?” we asked. “Thirty bucks,” the owner replied.
Within seconds there was that amount, plus, on the bar – donated by the patrons. Paying the bum’s tab and getting him banned for life from the bar was worth every penny!

If it wasn’t for hard luck cases, Jack wouldn’t have any luck at all.

Imagine the boost to the Hartlepool economy if Andy actually paid off his tab.

With all the money Andy probably owes on his tab, Jack could buy a house!

Why would anyone allow this bum a tab? I wouldn’t go to a bar like that, they have no class and are probably in debt.

Maybe “tab” back in the good old days. I recall as a regular at a bar guys saying that like they had money or something.

Bar him from the bar. They don’t make any money off of him.
