Was that “nickname” ever used in the Earl of Beaconfield’s lifetime? And—although his father had him baptized as a baby—did he actually identify himself by his Jewish faith?

In the 1980s, the Labour Party leader Michael Foot had a dog named Dizzy after Benjamin Disraeli.

I think most educated Americans know who Disraeli was. But what is the connection with the word “rascal”? Is it a common British expression to say “dizzy rascal”?

Deep down Andy is quite smart; otherwise, he couldn’t survive as a bum.

For those punchline challenged (as I was) today, I found the answer on wikipedia: Dylan Kwabena Mills [MBE (born 18 September 1984), known professionally as Dizzee Rascal, is a British rapper and MC. He is often credited as a pioneer of British hip hop and grime music and was ranked by Complex as one of the greatest British rappers of all time.

I’ve heard of Benjamin Disraeli, but I didn’t know he was nicknamed “Dizzy” until now. The thing you learn from reading comic strips. (Or at least the comments.)
