Schools certainly have changed since Andy was at school. They have also changed since Buster – Son of Andy Capp was at school. As I have said several times, I enjoyed reading the UK comic Buster from 1973 to 1979 and my favourite strips included “Rent-a-Ghost Ltd” and “Ivor Lott and Tony Broke” which were both drawn by Reg Parlett who also drew “Buster’s Diary”. Another of my favourite strips in Buster was “Faceache” which was drawn by the excellent artist Ken Reid who created “Roger the Dodger” for The Beano in 1953 and “Frankie Stein” for Wham in 1964. I discovered Frankie Stein in the comic Shiver and Shake which lasted from 1973-4. The revived version of Frankie Stein – by Robert Nixon who had also taken over Reid’s “Roger the Dodger” strip – continued in a comic called Whoopee!!
Just before I started college my dad warned me to be prepared to meet a lot of weirdos. What he didn’t tell me was that most of those weirdos were going to be professors.

The problem with schools these days is that parents think they know more than the teachers.

It’s really saying something about someone when Andy complains about them being rotten.
