That used to happen to my friend. He used to leave to catch his bus if his team looked like loosing. He used to say they couldn’t win with him watching. Unfortunately now he’s buried beside the goal.
What are those two squabbling about? If they bet money on Union, they won—and could afford to get stinko! BTW, how did Alan know about the final rush to victory if he was pounding his beat??
I’m with Andy on this one. This summer I missed the end of a great baseball game when my friends decided to leave early. I was riding with them, so I had no choice. Wouldn’t you know it, in the eighth inning the local team turned the tables and came back from behind to win the game.
Reminds me of going to football games with my dad. He’d always want to leave at the end of the third quarter “to beat the traffic.” We missed some great comebacks that way.
When I was a kid, going to baseball games in the 1960s, my friends and I would always stay through the last inning of the game — no matter how bad things looked that day for the New York Mets.
Per Wiki, the average attendance for HUFC home matches is about 4,100. They play in the fifth level of English soccer, the National League; if I’m reading the table right, they’ve gotten as high as the third level on occasion. They’ve gotten to the fourth round of the FA Cup a few times.

I rather think it was Andy who was desperate to get to the pub. He just blames Chalkie for everything.

I might leave early, but not that early.

Happens a lot, like you want to beat the crowd at a concert and after you leave they play your favorite song and bring out the T-shirt cannon.

Andy, didn’t you learn a thing? It’s not over until the fat lady sings.

The change over is usually at 7 CET… but it’s now gone midday… Has GC gone to the wall…?

And you’re walking; it’s not like you have to catch a bus or wait in a long line to get out of the parking lot…
