This is the fiftieth anniversary of the publication date for the first Whoopee And Shiver and Shake Comic. It was dated 12 October 1974. That comic brought several characters from the now deceased comic Shiver and Shake into Whoopee. These characters included Frankie Stein, Sweeney Toddler and Lolly Pop. Sweeney Toddler would soon be so popular as to be appearing on the front and back covers of Whoopee And Shiver and Shake Comic.
Frankie Stein had first appeared in Wham Comic from 1964 to 1967 and had been revived in Shiver and Shake for its run from 1973 to 1974. His popularity with readers in Shiver and Shake and later Whoopee meant that he would also appear in the 1975-6 UK comic Monster Fun which was strongly influenced by Shiver and Shake. Like Shiver and Shake, Monster Fun would finish in October. The last issue was appropriately dated 30 October 1976 – the day before Halloween. Monster Fun would be incorporated into Buster Comic making it Buster And Monster Fun Comic. As I – and several other readers – have noted before, Buster was originally billed as “Buster – Son of Andy Capp”.

Why does this remind me of the punchline: “We’ve already established what you are; now we’re just haggling over price”?

Could Andy find someone at the Rose who would spot him and the cop three pints?

Three pints it is, we’re on our way. Be ready for a bit of begging fellow pub patrons, Alan.

The next panel will show Alan being dragged by another copper.

Andy will have to get someone else to stand Alan the three pints. When everyone turns him down, off to gaol he goes.

Problem be, Andy has never stood his round, ever!

Do you really think Mr. Perpetually skint would shell out for three pints for you?
