The funny thing is my hubby came up to me last night and asked me if I would be interested in buying a larger boat to travel between islands. I wondered if he was reading this :D

I had a friend with a sail boat who was obsessive about going dock to dock without using the motor. It could be quite challenging.

This boat thing is unreal, On the outside, she’s small. Down below, she commodious, with plenty of room for thst salmon colored couch. Duh?

Does Gus have Arlo? Hook (no dock fee), line (water, electricity, free coffee, showers), or sinker (pay for the diesel fuel)??

Displacement hulls use very little fuel so that won’t cost much if he never raises a sail. Of course they go slow, but maybe that’s the idea.

It sounds like the only thing Gus wants out of it is free fuel. Of course he could convert the engine and use the used oil from the deep fryer. I knew someone in Iowa that did that for his farm vehicles.

A small schooner is a model. Only a sizable vessel needs more than one mast.

I’ve been thinking that Gus just figures that they’ll come visit the kids more often if they have the boat, and that means the kids won’t be going to J&A’s as often. Every time they woudl go he’d have to find someone to help out at the place. If A&J come to visit, he doesn’t have to find temp help.

Arlo and Gus are (will be) family. I don’t think Gus will try to screw Arlo with the boat (much!)

Don’t trust Gus! I met him in Florida about 5 years ago and he “sold” me that very same boat then one day he and the boat were gone and I was out some serious $$$. I’ve been looking for him ever since. I’m calling the cops right now!

The twist is going to be that Gus wants Gene to make an honest girl out of his daughter.

Arlo will need that occasional Gus(t) of wind for power.

Why would you need diesel in a sail boat? They’re wind powered… you could just buy one of those small wind catching generators to power it! ;-)

George Alexander, it’s surprising how big a cabin on a sailboat is, especially one that size…kind of amazing, really……plenty of room……..2-4 people on that boat wouldn’t be that bad for a few days…..it really would be cool….northern Lake Michigan, roaming around the islands swimming in secluded coves….man…..

unless it’s going to be your new lifestyle, you may end up with a boat that you hardly ever need. But since you are a comic strip character, you could do anything with it, like turn it into a flying ship.

Depending on where you are, moorage fees aren’t cheap, if you can even find a permanent slip. My parents were on a waiting list for years to get a permanent slip. They finally came to the top of the list-right after they had sold the boat because my father had an accident and couldn’t use it anymore.

Owning a boat means paying out both $$$ and lots of labor in upkeep. (Unless you’re a millionaire,in which case you pay other people to do it for you.)

Maybe it’s me, but with Gus as the owner wouldn’t the interior of the boat reek of cigar smoke?
