Opened up a grill that had been ‘wintering over’, and discovered a nest and big mouse (or a small rat?) – interesting in that there was not apparent start nor panic.. maybe it was just too sluggish from sleep? It stretched and lumbered off annoyed a being disturbed..But I agree, and suggest a cleaning and cover last use in Autumn. - But still if forgotten, we scrape most of the crust from the grill rack,and give it a good firing and heating up for a cleaning and sanitizing prelude to cooking. Glory or gory? Play Ball! Just scattered patches of snow in metro Detroit, but possibly more coming. To be done quickly, my Arlo makes Polish cheeseburgers, Dearborn Sausage brand kielbasa, split and grilled, topped with cheddar on burger buns. Gets him out of the chill in a hurry.

The weatherman has a lot of trouble predicting the weather here in central FL.Yesterday was supposed to be rainy but there was not a cloud in the sky and 81.Today they got the rain part right but instead of the predicted 76 it is only 66 now so I doubt that it is going to warm up much more.
Use a high smoking point spray oil like canola on grill, and clean immediately after last cooked item when grill has cooled but not dried. Have a great opening day.
I don’t know where in Michigan Gary Albert is, but northeast of Detroit we barbecue in the snow throughout the winter…. Freshly grilled delmonicos on Christmas Eve!!
I frequently find seed hulls, the remains of a mouse supper. One time I had a very startled mouse look up at me. It’s not the cleanliness – as David_42 said, it’s the shelter.
Real fun is finding that there is a very large hornet/wasp nest in it. Guess how he go rid of them. He turned the gas on and pushed the igniter button and run like #$@@.

I opened mine but just fired up some charcoals and burned off the old stuff and took a wire brush to the grill area.
