So you gradually acclimate to the outside after being inside in the air conditioning. So you don’t just get that blast of hot air walking out the door.

A lock like on a river where the boat will leave River Segment A, stop in a chamber (the lock) and the lock will either fill with water or drain water until it meets the level of River Segment B, at which point the lock opens and off the boat goes.

Just like cold water in the pool…better to just jump in and get it over with.

You can simulate this effect for no cost with your car. Just shut off your air conditioning ten minutes before you park and when you get out of the car it will be the same as outside. No shock.

I grew up near Palm Springs CA when refrigeration air conditioning was first showing up in automobiles. We had a couple of incidents were someone in Los Angeles (a couple of hours away) got into their A/C car, cranked it up, and drove to Palm Springs. Temp inside car was perhaps 60F, Outside >100F When they stepped out of the car they collapsed. At least one died.

Just like the Soo locks, when you’re even with where you’re going, you continue on…..

I agree with Reppr, jump right in and get it over with. Same goes for a chilly lake…..Run fast into the water and dive…The people who slowly wade into a lake torture themselves slowly….Especially when the water gets up to the giblets….

He keeps his house at 72 degrees in summer? That would waste a lot of energy and feel way too cold. I feel fine at 80 degrees in air conditioning and 77 is too cold.

How many barges can you get in that lock? What is the transition time?
