Janis: What on earth are you doing?
Arlo: Putting up the clothesline you wanted!
Janis: The clothesline I've wanted for 25 years?
Arlo: Bet you thought I wasn't listening!
My ex accused me of being deaf….I told her to get my attention before talking….one night, she had a friend over…she was in the living room, and I was in the back of the house….she told her friend I was deaf….I yelled “I am not!!!”….her friend got a good laugh…the Mrs. did not!!!

She must not have wanted it that badly, or else she could have done it herself (or paid for it). Anyway, she doesn’t seem angry – just surprised.

The way Janis frequently becomes exasperated with Arlo makes one wonder if her question in the first panel should be “What are you doing on earth?”

Boy, wish I had one at this house! They save money, energy, and the clothes smell wonderful.
