How about you put it on your smartphone’s calendar, Janis?!

Here in Central Ohio, we aren’t able to recycle milk cartons. No one will take them for recycling. They won’t take paperboard (cereal boxes, etc.), either.

I live in central Ohio, and our milk jugs are plastic, so they take them. I put out boxes flattened all the time and they take those.

In my town in Michigan, the only thing they don’t take is styrofoam; I have to drive it to a local landfill. The rest only gets picked up once every 4 weeks. It’s spelled out in a calendar the village sends out at the beginning of the year.

San Antonio TX has a wonderful recycling program. We have THREE barrels. One for outright garbage, one for recyclables, and one for garden and yard waste, plus pizza boxes! And twice a year the city picks up residential “bulky” trash—-things such as furniture, appliances, mattresses etc. The city does a good job, and they send out reminders to every house for schedules, holidays, bulk pickup.

In fort Worth we have a recycle with 3 cans, Trash, Recycle and Yard Waste. The Recycle is for everything except Styrofoam, metal hangers and plastic grocery bags. It is picked up once a week on trash day and the bulk stuff is picked up at the end of the month.

I guess we are well off. The city picks up our trash and recyclables every Monday and then another truck comes around and picks up yard waste such as limbs, leaves, etc. Electronics and appliances, etc., we take to the local yard.

My local Trash company sends 3 different trucks (Or more accurately, ‘fleets’ of trucks) around my neighborhood every Wednesday, one each for regular trash, recyclables and yard waste. In our case, “Recyclable” includes all glass, paper, cardboard, and most plastics. Waxed-cardboard cartons are not considered recyclable, those are trash, but the standard plastic jugs go straight into the recycle can.

Recycling pickup is the same day every single week, easy to remember.

Why would it be easier to remember if they stopped washing out the milk cartons?

In my small town in NM they recycle just about everything: any and all paper goods, plastics including shopping bags and rigid plastics like in children’s toys and almost any metal. And recycle pickup is the same day as trash pickup so we rarely forget!Glass they also recycle, well, actually they grind and polish it for landscaping, but you have to drop it off at a collection station yourself.

Stick the calendar from the Borough Council on the side of the fridge. Remember you are red week. NB. Might not work where you live.

We can’t do milk cartons either. I rinse them out, set them on the counter to fill with carrot peels, orange rinds, etc. and then put them in the trash. At least they serve more than one purpose.

the recycling bin is right next to my garbage bin. I just have to check the week to see if I have to put both out or only the garbage.

Sadly, where I live now, no recycling of any kind. In the near future we need to be recycling everything.
