depends on how heavy you are – at my size it is at least 300 calories for 3 miles, but I only walked 16 miles yesterday so somewhere around 1600 calories burnt
I usually walk on the treadmill using fat burn with incline on level 2. I found that I burned more calories walking like that for 30 mins, than my son who ran on the treadmill next to me for 10-15 mins.
Exercise builds muscle mass, so even though you don’t lose weight, you hopefully move the weight to a more attractive location. Plus it’s good for you and simply losing weight isn’t the end all and be all of life.
So what if walking doesn’t make you lose weight? Ever since I started walking I’ve dropped three clothing sizes, have more energy and lower blood pressure. Have not lost a pound.
That’s because weight lose is not the only indicator of healthy. If it were, anorexics and bulimics would be the healthiest people on the planet.
No so much ‘eat less’ but if you eat less of certain things you can eat more of other things and still lose weight. I’ve stopped eating sugar and most carbs but eat a lot more protein and more veggies. Without changing my exercise – deep water aerobics twice a week, moderate walking and gardening – I have lost more than 30 pounds since Christmas.Dropped two sizes in clothing, lowered my blood pressure and have less wear on the knees, feet and hips when I walk.

I’ve found walking doesn’t help me lose weight. But then, most of my walking is between the computer and the fridge.
