Reminds me of an old joke. Arlo is obviously English. If he were Irish, he’d have done the same thing to the fly as to the gnat – toss it and keep drinking. If he were a Scot, he’d grab the fly by the wings and yell, “Spit it out! Spit it out!”
I actually feel minimal qualms about gnats or flies…. of course they are not pleasant… but I can usually work around their presence. But, for me…. ants…. just nauseate me. If I see them on or near anything I am contemplating consuming….. my stomach turns.
This is why drinking from a can outdoors gives me a particular sense of dread. You don’t know there is a fly in it until you feel its gross little body bumping into your lip. Or worse. Ughhh. It happens!
True story… while doing yard work, I had a drink sitting out…I took a swig, but before swallowing…something didn’t feel right..maybe felt like the liquid was moving in my mouth…I spit it out…it was a live wasp.

Don’t worry about it, Arlo. Alcohol kills germs.

A black fly in Arlo’s Chardonnay. Isn’t it ironic…

Did you know that a fruit fly can survive being immersed in 86 proof gin?

Now I’m thinking of all the times Jon Taffer found dead insects inside liquor bottles on “Bar Rescue.”

I have noticed that gnats really like red wine. I rarely have issues with gnats in my beer or juice but they are frequently found floating in my Cab.
