How can he think about groping for a word when Janis is right there in front of him?

That’s the worst of having a huge vocabulary: you KNOW there’s a word for it, but you just can’t … you know…!

My wife and I go through this at least once a day. Sometimes it"s her, other times it’s me, but most times we both try to figure out the term we know is right there on the tip of your tongue. Welcome to the mid-sixties!:-)

It’s the primary reason to stay married when you become AARP eligible. At that point you have to have a spouse nearby to provide the word, the missing name, complete the sentence, remind you of the reason you went into the other room after you return with nothing, tell you what you said you had to do today, and…

If the spouse isn’t near then don’t sweat it. It’s just like waiting for public transportation. The word or whatever the missing link is will come to you…eventually.

On the other hand, we never have that problem with four letter words.

If you don’t use it, you lose it. That doesn’t apply to just languages…or rules grammatic.
