Ever since my last career went in the toilet, I’ve had to start over and it hasn’t been easy. Even now, my new career path is having a rough launch. The rules of the market keep changing, and the stress of it is likely what gave me and sustains my pre-existing medical condition. I find it encouraging that I’m not the only one in this boat, and the more I read about it, this boat has been turning into a fleet.
I retired ten years ago, got busier than I ever was while working (it seemed). As we started looking to downsize, our kids basically said they didn’t want or need any of our stuff or memorabilia. So we had an estate sale and got rid of just about everything. What’s left fits neatly into a single storage unit.
Our slate is clean, and we’re ready to start writing a new chapter.
As an English Major from my youth and life (so far), I’m most-times bothered by trying to uncoil a sentence made up by a positive followed by a negative to get the full meaning of it. Janis could just as well have said: “Well kid, I envy you !” or the like…

Is Janis going to share her own “starting over” story?

It’s amazing how many people never get or take the chance to try new adventures.

If you decide to start over you do have a purpose.

Play it to your advantage. Your young. You GET to start over. When you’re older that is a big negative.

Everyday is a day to start over and be a better person than you were yesterday.

Get a straight job and let someone else write the checks for a while.

I would not be adverse to saying that I don’t disagree that that’s not unenviable!

As someone who’s boat got destroyed this year (though the insurance made me whole), I can see that the idea of starting over can be quite formidable.

Janis isn’t fooling anyone. She’s mentally calculating child-bearing years.

Double negatives are confusing. Does Janis mean that Mary Lou is in a good position?

It’s advantageous to make mistakes while you’re young, because on average you have more time to apply what you learned in making them.
