I had a coffee maker with a timer. One morning it looked like it started to have a fire in the back. Got rid of it by turning into the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They actually came out to my house to pick it up, and paid me for it, so they could test it. Since then I will not use the timer function when I’m asleep. Better safe than sorry.
I may need coffee just to be able to make coffee, but no auto-start timer and no alarm clocks. I will get up when I feel like it and that depends on my plans for the morning.
When we had to replace our coffee pot we had simple requirements: simple. No timer, no settings, no wifi, no clock, no radio. Cone filters, one button. It does shut the hot plate off after an hour, but that’s a safety thing. Makes great coffee.
NO PROBLEM for me. My OJ is already ready in the fridge. I haven’t drunk coffee in forever.Unfortunately my wife is a coffee addict and we have to schedule our lives around that need.
Well, not a coffee drinker, BUT, I get up and put fresh water in the kettle. Take my relatively fresh custom blended loose leaf tea out of it’s hermetically sealed container and fill my tea ball. Then I apply hot water to my double walled insulated tea carafe and allow it to steep for precisely 6 minutes. That is of course 6 minutes, ‘metric’. Then I add three teaspoons of raw sugar to the carafe and gently stir it in. Then I enjoy my 1.5 liters of tea in the back garden. And, yes, I do occasionally think about all the people who are not retired.
But really folks, what is the significant other for? You kick him/her out of bed, they close the bedroom door (softly!), go to the kitchen, grind the beans, put in the filter, add the water and press start. Then when you’re good and ready the coffee awaits.

Man, that just sucks. However I can check it and set it one of the other times I’m up at night.

Don’t you just hate when that happens?!

Since I don’t drink coffee and avoid all caffeine, this is outside my experience.

I don’t set a coffee maker timer, as I don’t have a set time for getting up & out of bed. Depends on how late I stay up reading the new comics.

Flip the dang switch on and go back to bed.

What’s coffee, it’s that long since I had the stuff I forget. Even then it was instant.

Not as bad as setting the timer and forgetting to put in the water or coffee. Of course that would never happen to ME.

So you have to wait 10 minutes.

I set it up, push the button and read the first half of GoComics while I’m waiting.

We were quite the partiers in high school. We always knew to clear out when the house coffee pot came on… those were the days!!!

My US Kuerig makes a cup in less than a minute. Start it, go take a leak and scratch your balls and voila, there you have it…
