When is moving day?

Last time we moved, I didn’t really give a carp about the house, but I sure mourned my garden.

Cut bait then.

This is the second time he’s brought up moving and she’s interrupted him.Get me some boxes and bubble wrap and I’ll pack for them. I’m ready to go !!!

From just reading the first panel I thought there might be a reference to John Paul Young.

Cut bait, the gulf and coast have been getting lots of dangerous storms lately.

They will NOT move. Janis is against it. What Momma wants Momma gets.

Ah yes, one can move, but generally the same problems exist, but perhaps in a better location…of course different scenery may help…

Argh, which will it be? Near the kids and the water, or still in the neighborhood?

Our son and his family live in the Denver area, and we want to move there. Fortunately, they want us to move near them.

Unfortunately, thanks to Californication, the cost of living, taxes, utilities, and especially real estate prices have skyrocketed over the past nine or ten years. (Should I perhaps say “necessarily skyrocketed”?)

So, we’re stuck back here in the Eastern Midwest and have to accept frequent trips instead of relocation.

“Do it while we’re able” is a common realization as you age.

Stay put Arlo, you’ll have coastal property in ten years anyway.

Moving always sucks, it just gets harder when you get older because … well you’re older (just how it is) and then you have to actually see how much “stuff” you’ve accumulated over the years. Arlo & Janis would not be the first to move closer to where the kids-grandkids live when they retire.

I wouldn’t be moving to any coastal area these days, you’ll be IN the water soon enough.

too many people wait until they retire or after to decide what they plan to do. My wife and I decided long befrore retirement what we wanted. Didn’t want to end up doing the if it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium. Lived overseas for a couple of years and then came back and settled down.

Hard decision if you are still in your working and acquisition years….

Hope this isn’t a foreshadowing that the author is retiring

Janis is right – fish or cut bait, Arlo.

Gotta say before you commit to moving close to your kids, you had better make sure they intend to stay there long term. For the last four years my wife has been looking at house in Oregon to be close to my daughter. I resisted, knowing it was inevitable but hoping to put it off as long as possible. I like my house in Michigan.

Then suddenly my daughter and her husband decide to relocate to Ohio for career reasons. Dodged that bullet.

So, do it. Try it. If you don’t at least try, then you’ll never know. I put all of my stuff into storage, sold my house and car, and then went to live in Wales (United Kingdom) and then Poland as a digital nomad. And, yep, at 52 years old. No regrets !

Do it now, Arlo! As of 2 months ago, all 3 of my sons live in (or walking distance from) the mountains, and all the wonderful hiking therein – and now I can hardly walk………

And so we see the rough outline of the plot for the coming year. Decline and eventual passing of Gus. With Arlo and Janis making the decision to move we will get a definite answer on Arlo’s retirement status. Is Janis ready to give up her garden and move to a condo?I lost touch with the strip for a number of years because of dependence on newspapers, but was reacquainted on line.I look forward to the new adventures.

I think Janis is starting to come around. She wants to live where her grandchild lives.

Sure move, and start a new garden. That shed needed fixing anyhow. Of course, hubby and I sold the house and now live in a motorhome. We did the grand tour of the entire country last summer. Epic road trip~
