Has anyone read the novel Trust? Sounds like Gus has shades of Benjamin Rask. Given what Arlo stands for, he needs to move his seat away. Go home and hug Luddie.
George Washington Plunkitt used his inside knowledge of the plans for acquiring land for the expansion of the New York City water system to enrich himself by buying up land and selling it to the city at a profit while serving as a New York City official. He justified his actions by explaining the difference between “graft” and “honest graft”, declaring that what he did constituted the latter, and further remarking, “I seen my opportunities and I took ‘em.” William Riordan’s book, Plunkitt of Tammany Hall, has it all in Plunkitt’s own words. (Available as an audiobook on Audible.com.) My point is, Gus is taking the exact same moral position.
I remember visiting Myrtle Beach in 1976 when I was stationed in Charleston. To say it’s grown is an understatement. Same for Daytona Beach. Florida is being rapidly paved over.
40 years in commercial real estate as a banker in mid size markets (250,000-400,000 people).one of the suprises was I kept meeting rich people who had been in the plant nursery business. Their answer was, you go 3 miles past the edge of a growing town, buy a corner tract on a couple of well traveled but empty roads. Run your business barely above starvation level for 35 years then sell to McDonalds what has become a very busy corner amid a bustling suburb of town.

My question, is Gus very wealthy, and does his daughter know about it?
She, her daughter and husband have been busting their tuchuses, trying to earn a dollar, it appears they don’t.

So it’s his fault that you can drive through Destin (or other similar places) along the road next to the beach and not be able to see the ocean

Don’t read “Crankshaft”. Most of the readers there just leave hate comments.

Maybe he will just buy his house and sell his condo or maybe just trade. He could always just lease his house.
