We dont experience hurricanes, and there is a mountain range between us and the North Pacific. But we do have Atmospheric Rivers that have the same rain and the same winds and the same punch as a hurricane.
The sea levels aren’t rising any faster than the average of the last 3,000 years. That’s just a scam to get people to sell out of fear. No, there aren’t more hurricanes than usual, and they aren’t stronger than usual, either. That’s just hype, again to sell you on fear.
Me thinks that wherever one lives they think it’s the best place on the planet otherwise why would they live there. There is no Utopia. Every place has it’s cons.
When I encounter climate change deniers, I’m reminded of two quotations:—“Stupidity is the deliberate cultivation of ignorance.” (William Gaddis)—“With stupidity the gods themselves struggle in vain.” (Friedrich Schiller)
A town in LA has been mostly abandoned due to constant storms destroying everything! Since the 1930s, Louisiana’s coast has lost 1,900 square miles of land, primarily marshes.
The Ice Age was climate change. Warming now is climate change. Is mankind to blame for both? The glaciers are melting faster now. That is what they do. Ever watch an ice cube melt? As the mass gets smaller, it melts quicker due to a smaller mass not holding the coldness as much? Just my theory of course.
I believe the Earth is warming and that our climate(s) are changing for the worse. One could argue ad infinitum the causes of this, but it IS happening. I strongly doubt humans can or will slow it, and definitely be unable to reverse it. Still, no harm in trying.
I live 80 ft above sea level and then I realized one day if the ice caps melted or the glaciers melted that would not be high enough. Oh well it will take a while to get here.
Arlo makes a lot of sense, even if sarcastically. I actually thought of moving to Florida for awhile but the last couple of years made me come to my senses, such as they are.
Hate to bring it up, but all the major magazines (Time, USNews) had covers in the 70’s about the coming Ice Age in the next few years. All the scientists were in agreement. And Historically there had been at least two recent “mini” ice ages in written memory (several hundred years). The earth does what the earth does when it wants to. We could perfectly green and what China, India, Africa, and South America (slash & burn) practice would undo our efforts by ten fold. Its vanity to assume we can hold back the cycles or even understand them let alone predict them.
There is a mark on the pier, here in Georgia, that was put there about 150 years ago, when it was built. It is half an inch below the highest level from that time. For 50 years we’ve been here and I have searched for evidence of the sea levels rising, and cannot find any. I have been up and down the coast, from Maine to Florida and any where the levels were marked for more than 100 years, I have taken pictures of the highest level and spoke with people living there. The sea levels are not rising. Erosion from storms have damaged the beaches and moved inland, but the levels are not rising.
As to house prices – Someone two houses over is looking to sell their house. I went online to the broker who has a sign on their lawn. The price they are asking is about twice what we figured houses were selling for and it is a smaller model than ours – especially since we live on a 4 lane main road.

Exactly, and why are you moving to the Hurricanes and rising sea levels?

Tell them to compare the cost of hurricane insurance.

I remember as a kid they were telling us we were heading into an Ice Age! O well. We’ve had the Men of Knowledge and the Prophets to warn us….

Insurance on coastal and flood plain properties is through the roof. Those 500 year floods keep happening.

In Florida, it is not that the sea is rising, but that the land is sinking.
