Life moves on. Little different in our neighborhood, not half as many kids as when we were the young family. My Janis reacts the same way when I insinuate we are the older ones now.

Been in this house now for almost 22 years. Every one of my neighbors have changed, one passed away at home. A couple I’m on better than unassociated with terms, but unfortunately no King of the Hill neighborhood buddies, shame.

We are the only gay couple on our street. But then again, our street is typical for a suburb. It only goes between 124th Ave and 122nd Ave. Two blocks. That is five houses on each side if you need a visual. So that is the 1 in 10 that is commonly quoted. . .. .

The thought just occurred to me: If A&J move, could this signal the end of the strip? JJ is in his 70s, and next year the strip will be 40. (I need to steel myself sufficiently in advance because it will be a sad day when there is no A&J.)

    Neighbors come and neighbors go.

While we stick around and watch the show.

I never thought of it in this manner before. I knew we were getting older and yes we’ve been in the same house for 33 years so it makes sense.

I looked in the mirror the other day and I was shocked to see an old man looking back at me, I thought to myself, is that really me? because I don’t feel that old, we are like children only in reverse, Kids grow up fast and when you get old, it just sneaks up on you. The wheel goes round.

A good, lively neighborhood is mixed of all kinds of people living there together. There should be a constant change of people of all ages and backgrounds during the years and decades. Resulting in a constant mix of kids laughter and play, care taking of yards, chatter among neighbors, some friendly dogs, cats and other pets, wary wild animals, smell of barbecue…

I know this is something most other didn’t see, and it caught my eye right away since my career was in the coatings industry when I was working…but in the second panel the first thing I saw was Arlo and Janis covered with blue paint. Only after a second and third glance did I recognize it for what it was worth, shade from the trees, but I just cannot “un-see” the paint spill.

A lot of good comments here, and a few disturbing ones. While I would miss this strip it would not alter my life one iota. I have no real investment in cartoons. I read them, occasionally I laugh and then get on with my day. This is my ‘last mug of tea and breakfast’ time. I’ve read comix from the time I delivered the Toronto telegram in the 60’s to today, yet never thought twice about not reading them.

When I moved into my townhouse 25 years ago, I had an old lady living upstairs from me and one across the hall. Two of the best “alarm systems” one could have to protect the property. Both are gone now and younger families have moved in. I remain and work from home. I have become the old lady in the building.

We have experienced a dramatic change in our neighborhood. Older couples are moving out, and invariably, the new owners are much younger. I think my wife and I are the oldest couple around, and quite frankly, we’re starting to feel a little out of place.

We all face that time when we have to leave or just can’t go on any more. Maybe Arlo & Janis will keep going on by a family member or like some comics reruns. May Jimmy Johnson’s A&J go on forever.

If anybody understands the baby boomer generation it is JJ. It will be a sad day when he retires Arlo & Janis. But the strip could go into syndication and the oldest ones will be new to me. The 77 yo chemo brain finds many things new which may, in fact, be old.Cheers y’all!

When my Dad was alive and living in Florida he once warned me to be very careful driving in Bradenton because there were too many old people. He was 85 at the time. Calling the kettle black that old pot did.

I was getting a coffee and I told a young lady, “When I was your age, they told kids not to drink coffee because it would stunt your growth!” She replied with a little huff, “I’m twenty-four!” I must be getting really old.
