Weight discrimination: it does exist. People tend to think more negatively of fat people then they do “regular” people.
Then there is the fashion industry – I have no idea who runs that, but they think that emaciated is the look women should have. I’ve seen my wife’s clothing catalogue, they do show women with a few pounds on them only because they combine “big” with “tall.” Regular catalogs tend to show only “beautiful people.”
Weight discrimination is a later part of the 20th century phenomenon for America. If you look at the pin-up girls from the 1940’s, them gals had “some meat on their bones.”
Also it’s cultural. My step-niece spent some time working with pygmies. They pitied her because she was too “ugly” to get a man to marry her. She’s white, she’s tall (even by western standards) and she’s too skinny (not that she thinks so).
“Earth Goddesses” from ancient cultures are depicted as being rather rotund.
The bottom line is, “Do you like yourself?” not “What do other people think of me?” Pay attention to health issues and see a doctor if you have to, but in my book, don’t worry about dress size. Be who you are. People like that are just more fun to be around.
