And according to a psychological study from Harvard done by someone with a lot of time on his hands, there are 15 people out of that 7 billion who are a perfect match for you. Good luck.
I’m planning a trip this summer and the most difficult part is finding someone to check on my cats every couple of days. I will leave them alone for a few days but more than that, I need some one to check on them.
I have the same guilt related problem. I can’t imagine my poor cats having to live without me for more than a few days because they’ve taught me they’d never survive. Thus, I pay for a kennel to care for them as I don’t know anyone I’d trust to come in my house much less care for my cats. My friends I do trust don’t drive and couldn’t walk up and down the stairs.
Here’s a thought! If you go into big cities Orlando Atlanta New York City population is pretty incredible! There is a little closer to seven and a half billion people in the WORLD, our CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT with votes and strokes of pens have spent trillion of dollars, without even batting an eye we are going to be in debt for the rest of our lives our children’s lives and our grandchildren’s lives!
There is one person in the world I trust to take are of our cats while we go away: we adopted two of them from here so we know she’s okay. I guess her husband should be included as well. Best of all, she doesn’t charge a dime. We do give them gift cards to their favorite restaurants of course, and donate to her cat shelter as well.
She is also our designated heir who would take them if something happened to me and my husband. It’s in our wills, all legal and recorded. She does not know that she would inherit a large sum of $$$ if that happened to take care of them as well. She’s also the only person with access to our home, with alarm codes and keys and a garage door opener. Our families have been told how to contact her in an emergency too. More people should plan ahead like us, just in case.
Three. My stepdad lives with us already, and hubby’s cousins live across the street and have Maine Coon sisters. We’re the ones who catsit for them as well. If both of us die, they get my three. Yes, they know – they volunteered.

My daughter left her cat with me for a few weeks. It was never seen again. I think a coyote got it, really.

I’m reminded of this bit of 1971 movie dialogue:
Cornelius: You don’t like them, do you?
Zira: Who?
Cornelius (pointedly): Humans.
Zira (considering): Well, we’ve met hundreds since we’ve been here, and I trust . . . three.

All three of us are glad that I’m not one you would trust to take care of your cat.
