Years ago, my manager just SNAPPED after almost two decades in retail. I think he had decided internally that today was his last day, and he was taking no prisoners. This came to a head when a customer tried shouting at him when he was already dealing with another polite customer.
Customer: “Excuse me! I’m talking to you!”
Manager: “And I was talking to another customer, sir. Now, how can I help you?”
Customer: “Why didn’t you talk to me when I got your attention?!”
Manager: “I did the first time when I told you I would be with you after talking to my current customer.”
Customer: “Yes, but I asked you again!”
Manager: “I make a point of ignoring customers when they ask questions at inappropriate times, so it forces them to learn. It’s like training a dog!”
Customer: “Are you calling me a dog?!”
Manager: “No, because dogs learn.”
At the end of the shift [Manager] said, “Peace out,” clocked out, and never came back. The store manager just said [Manager] needed some time off, and that turned out to be indefinite. Last I checked, he now teaches people how to scuba with his cousin, and he seems happy!
NOT my story, but that’s kinda how I wound up quitting. Just decided one Friday “Today’s the day.”
Also… We LIKE Dogs
