Come on, Zoe... If you eat your rice cereal, you can have strained plums for dessert! I don't think she should have to wait. What?? Using food- especially dessert- as a reward can lead to obesity or any number of eating disorders. But if I let her have the plums first, she won't eat all of her cereal! So? What would you rather have... A happy well-adjusted child or a clean plate? What fun is being a parent if you can't make somebody do what's good for them? Slurp!

FYI, Wanda, it’s possible to have clean plates and happy well-adjusted children.
