That’s me, through and through. I am a horrible listener, and I never pay enough attention to anything, other than what I’m doing(normally reading comic strips

It’s because you do not impose consequences for failure to act the first time.

Zoe reminds me of this story:

A farmer sold a mule to his neighbor, saying it was a good plowing mule.

The next day, the first farmer paid a visit to his neighbor. “How’s the mule working out?”

“Terrible! You said it was a good plowing mule, but I can’t get it to do anything. I’ve hollered and cussed at it, but it just stands there.”

“I see,” said the first farmer. He picked up a broken piece of fence post, walked to the mule’s head and hit the mule squarely between the eyes. The mule blinked, shook its head and began to move forward, pulling the plow.

You see?" said the first farmer. “You just gotta get its attention first.”

You just gotta get Zoe’s attention first… maybe a little less drastically.
