As with unicorns, in most folklore, fairies were not like the cute little Disneyish beings. They were mischievous at best and could be lethal at worst, falling somewhere between angels and demons. Even the more benevolent fairies could be dangerous if insulted.
Hammie may have a point. Tinker Bell has a surprisingly mean right hook for someone so small! And as of 2013, big bad dragons now have a reason to fear cute little pixies!
