Wren and Hammie both have hats. That’s good. I just had my 6th or 7th skin cancer removed. I would get all sunburned at the beach or the pool as a kid, which is probably why.
Ice cream sandwiches were one of my cravings when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I would come home from work & have one every day. My husband made sure to keep the freezer stocked.
Y’all are taking all the fun out of the picnic with all that nutrition stuff. A hot dog every once in a while isn’t going to hurt you (especially depending on what kind you buy; there are all types and varieties now) nor is ice cream.
Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Mayonnaise based salads (potato, coleslaw, macaroni), carb heavy pasta salads, beer and sodas – it’s all fat/carbs and salt and high caloric doses. Watermelon might be the only healthy option at one of these parties.
One of the great mysteries (among many) in life is the mind of a mother when it comes to food. Ice cream is primarily dairy, mothers always tell their kids to drink their milk. Ice cream also contains eggs, a source of protein. The sandwich layers are made from wheat, so there is a serving of grain. Nutritionally, do you really think that your body cares what order the food is eaten in? Should the ice cream sit on top of the hotdog for better digestion?
Besides this is a neighborhood gathering, the hotdogs are most likely the lips and @$$hole bargain brand, not the high quality and much more expensive kosher all beef variety.
“The child wanted chocolate cake for breakfast! How ridiculous! … And someone in my brain looked under chocolate cake and saw the ingredients: eggs! Eggs are in chocolate cake! And milk! Oh goody! And wheat! That’s nutrition! … And their father said, ‘Chocolate cake coming up!!’ … And five children sat at breakfast and the morning music was playing and they were eating chocolate cake and singing songs to me: ‘Dad is great! Give us the chocolate cake!’”
Wanda we are talking about having a little fun in life. As Marie-Antoinette is supposed to have said “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche” (she spoke German and French) so let Hammie have his ice cream bar.
I have a saying on my wall, “Life is short, eat dessert first”. Hot dogs and all processed meats are known carcinogens, but I surely ate my share before I learned that. The ice cream sandwich isn’t much better, with all the sugar.
It’s a neighborhood party! Hotdogs and other frightfully non-nutritious goodies are the food required for such events. Make mine a foot long chili cheese dog with onions, please!
I wouldn’t eat anything served at block parties or at most gatherings since budgetary constraints force organizers to buy the cheapest and most ultraprocessed foodstuffs.

Hammie just make mom happy. Go get yourself a hotdog then maybe you can grab a couple of ice cream sandwiches.

Between the two, I’d say Hammie’s choice is more healthy.

A frozen hot dog covered with chocolate… and sprinkles? (Not for me, but we’re talking Hammie here.)

A cooler doesn’t keep ice cream frozen. I’ve tried it.

Since it doesn’t make sense to him, Hammie probably just shouldn’t have an ice cream sandwich after he eats.

One wiener in between two ice cream sandwiches sounds about right. Kills two birds with one stone.

Have a hot dog, and eat it where your mother can see you; then she will approve the ice cream sandwich.

with Hammie’s metabolism what’s the difference for crying out loud…

So much for health. I think the ice cream sammie might be one step above the hotdog in nutrition.

Ice cream sandwiches prevent ice pick headaches,
And we apparently have a lot of people who have never been to a baseball game—-else why so anti—hot dog?
On to the inflatable bounce house—-no neighborhood fair is without them, for reasons known to absolutely no one.

So eating a hot dog is some kind of drudgery now?

An ice cream sandwich is likely to be more nutritious than a hot dog! (Though neither is going to win any prizes for nutrition…)
