20 years later, DC Comics would make this same exact mistake. Their special “Hispanic Heritage Month” comic book covers would all see their highlight Hispanic characters positioned in the context of food even if it didn’t make any sense (like one character who was depicted standing against a white backdrop while fruit floated freely around them).
After people of all races called them out on it, they were forced to redo the covers at the last minute.
