At basic training, all us Latinos were assigned to the same tent. It's funny, but an Army uniform doesn't automatically earn you respect. One day, we had boxing matches. I knew I was a pretty good fighter, so I entered. They started calling me 'Boom Boom Benny Ramirez.' Some of the guys even started calling me 'sir.'
