“Laziness for sale,” the call on the streets, downtown Chinatown, on certain days of the year.“No, Papi, I won’t be lazy…” old folks who know the game stop beside the Father, with his son in hand, who has been calling out to people, “Hey, you want a lazy kid?” And the parent always puts his hand in his pocket and pulls out a boiled egg, and hands it to the person instead, “Here, take this instead. I’ll keep him a little longer…” and the adults part, smiling, at the old ritual.

Lots of parents still do this with lazy kids. Sometimes Chines and other Oriental parents even living in the ‘burbs sometimes do this. And others, too. And their children seem to crowd the universities and score straight ’A’s…check the stats on Oriental kids and high scores and wages and social standing…check it out!

    Maybe we smoke too much.

It’s a New Year type festival. If it’s a big fat ugly slow one you should plan on passing out a dozen eggs…it helps if you get money back, even if you arrange it beforehand.
