I’ve been driving since before check engine lights came on the scene and have only seen one once. It was a motorcycle that mice had chewed the wiring on.
I go to the dealer for service and see them come out with air filters to the customer to show they need replacement. One time one had a mouse nest in it.
When the check engine light comes on, go to AutoZone where they’ll check to see what the problem is with their little machine. Very helpful! If the check engine light is flashing off and on, get to a mechanic ASAP.

When the check engine light comes on, you get a piece of duct tape and cover it up.

My last three check engine lights were caused by loose gas caps.
