Back in the late 50’s, my girlfriend, my friend Joe, (later the best man at our wedding) and I went to a downtown café. I don’t really remember what if anything we ordered to eat. I do remember that all three of us ordered coffee. We sat there talking, sipping coffee, and my girlfriend sat there putting sugar in her coffee. Last count was nine teaspoons. She took one sip of the coffee and didn’t touch it again. After we got married I never again saw her drink coffee again.

Just leave your cups on the counter, people. Somebody will clean up for you, and be darned thrilled about it, too.

It’s so nice to see a young couple — albeit fictional — strolling together without the usual modern fixture in their hands: their smartphones.

The proper company always improves the quality of the food (and everything else).
