This isn’t what I expect from “Baldo”, but it is very important and very well-done. Gracias.

This reminds me of the time my uncle who served in pacific campaign in WW2 told me that he was making down to his artillery gun when all of sudden the Japanese blew it up. So my uncle made his way back to command headquarters and asked one of the commanding officers what he should do? Without hesitation the CO pointed over to a rifle (I believe a M1?) and said “There’s your new artillery gun”.

While I don’t comment much on this strip here since I read it in my local paper, I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying reading this true account of one man’s experiences in WWII. We are losing these heroes fast and need to celebrate their sacrifices and bravery every chance we get. Kudos, Hector and Carlos.

If you are hearing it, it’s already missed you. (Artillery shells are supersonic.)

Thank you for this series. It has proven very enlightening for me. I knew a little, but putting it into the perspective of those who are true patriots and yet still being discriminated against or worse has made me stop and open my eyes a bit wider. I’m ashamed of the people who forget exactly who it is that serves because “freedom isn’t free”.

Kudos to the creators for resourcing the Latino & Latina WWII oral history project! For anyone interested, there is also a great oral history collection from service members and those on the home front at the WWII Museum in New Orleans.
