I admit I was like she is.

It’s ironic that he’s always seen studying at the same table with a genuinely scholarly sibling and still can’t rise above a C+ average.

My troubles are many. Their as deep as a well. I swear there aint no Heaven and I pray there aint no hell. now THAT’S IRONIC!

Opposite of expectation? So it IS ironic that Baldo is studying!

Close but no ceegar! Ironic means completely unexpected, not opposite.

I prefer the term “ferrous”.

It is “ironic” that Baldo does not comprehend the meaning of the word “ironic” at his age – we must assume there are no mirrors in his world.

My daughter used the word ironic for everything last year – about as accurately as Baldo.

With many words, “meaning” can vary among different dialects. In fact, my British friends tell me that to them “ironic” means what Gracie says, but can also be used as an alternative to “sarcastic”.

Gifted children, prodigies of Nature.

Well, technically, looking at Baldo one would expect that all the siblings displayed the same kind of intelligence, and also that the older siblings were more intelligent, so Gracie being the intelligent one is ironic by her definition, because it’s the opposit of what’s expected.
