My husband is Italian. I am not. I was given (well he was given and he shared it with me) the family “gravy” recipe. First time I made it alone I was terrified and followed it exactly. Now we are not suppose to have sugar (both Diabetic) so I leave it out. I don’t have hours to cook it – maybe 45 minutes at most. I use alternate brands of canned tomatoes.
He has never said anything about it not tasting right in 45 years.
