People have weird ideas about apnea and CPAP…. You don’t need to be huge or lazy or …pretty much fit ANY category to have apnea.
I first heard about it from a friend who was diagnosed about 15 years ago…. he’s about 6’2" and maybe 160 pounds…and still carries heavy stuff and does home repairs by himself, in his 60’s.
His wife heard him stop breathing in between his room-shaking snores. He got the first CPAP machine I ever saw.
It was as big as a car battery and made noise all night….Mine is the size of a small lunchbox and almost silent. It’s a bother at first…. but when you discover what it can do for you…. wow.
I recommend that anyone who’s “accused” of snoring (and it’s not a crime!) be tested. It’s worth it.That’s why I talk about it publicly.
Snoring would be preferable to NOT sleeping. I have Fibromyagia and I don’t sleep at all. When I can get 6 hours I’m grateful. Last nite my legs (and knees and elbows) hurt so bad that I only got about 3 hours sleep. And I will not take any drug that has the word “fatal” in the side effects!
By the way, my husband and I picked about 30 pounds of plums off a tree in the golf course he belongs to. the management told us to go ahead. I’m taking orders for jam. Maybe standing will erase the leg pain. (I hope)
I pity those of you with sleeping disorders. My father snored – terribly. Since being adult, I only shared a room with my parents one night (for my middle son’s graduation) when the hotel had overbooked and there were no rooms anywhere. My X snored too (not as bad as my dad).
I had one boyfriend who I was starting to like until I found that he snored; not the only reason I decided not to continue with him (but it WAS a factor).
Last night I was awake much of the night because a storm lingered in my area and lightning flashes do that. I dried the bed linens on the line yesterday and I love that fresh smell, so otherwise it was lovely.
I’m really lucky with my health, that the only thing I have to worry about is my HBP – and even that does not bother me as much as it bothers every doctor I see. Breathing exercises are helping more than anything else, and I’m looking forward to enjoying meat and cheese again starting next Valentines Day. I may even plan another Chicago trip around then (probably later, May would be nice for the botanical gardens). That was one place we missed visiting last summer because there was no parking around there.
As to Martin’s 2 axles, it DOES seem that it would not be SO bad as long as he’s careful not to choose any really highly angled slopes, and they are all surrounded by some soft lawns (and even bushes). Vegetation here in AZ is never friendly to landings (even the grass is not soft) and almost everything that grows has thorns. I can see the opportunity for a soft landing for him, tho’, just by steering into the grass and doing a summersault (what I would do).
And what I forgot to say above – I would never take a med that I’d be expected to continue for years. My new SIL told me that he just started on one but his BP is only lowered by the meds about the same as mine by breathing. It DOES take more effort, however, to concentrate on setting the rate of breathing rather than letting that autonomous system just do its thing. I notice that I am not able to when driving. And I am also used to controlling my breathing in a totally different pattern for exercises in my workouts.
Wow GC printed the last few comments twice. First they erased everything, now they are printing everything in multiples. Somebody new at the control board?
That’s one big egg, Susan. I’m not sure I’m quite that hungry, but I’ll give it my best shot. Sorry I missed you, but I was doing my toon tour and forgot to check back in. But then again, I didn’t really think anyone would still be around.
Bev musta’ been here while I ran over to shoot some arrows. I told the story at Dinette Set. I often enough get hit on by guys around my own age but that was just funny (especially since he first saw my face (sans makeup) while driving and then walked over to me in my shirt and jeans – and then even a lady friend in the game thought that I was around HER age (50-60s?)
FB will have my Bday on there and I noticed that the arbitrary year I plugged in puts me over 90 LOL! No way I’ll put the REAL FULL DOB on FB.
bev I don’t know if you are aware of this, but there has been a Clark Gable marathon going on on TCM. He’s not my favorite actor, but he did make some movies I like. Tonight they’re showing It Happened One Night.
bev, I noticed at Amazon.com that they are now releasing individual JC shows. No doubt they will be some of his best shows. I’m going to eventually add them to my wish list, but I want to wait until I’ve acquired most of what’s already on the list.
No brakes, no worries, no steering, no cares. Even Rusty Boy can see which way the wind is blowing. Even Rusty Boy can read the expression on Martin’s face. This story will end with, “and that’s what happened”. A common tale in these times of everything on demand. Instant thrills, just add wheels. Instant high, pick your poison. Forget about the same old same old, just step out and swing for the bleachers. In the end no one will remember the score, you were a hit and that’s all that mattered. This goes viral in twenty four hours. Down loaded from the camera at the intersection just seven hundred feet away and up loaded to You Tube. Martin you will be famous and Shirley you will be taking out the garbage for the next three weeks.
bev, both those clips are in the best of Carson collection. My favorite is the first disk which has all the erly clips including the Ames clip. My favorite was George Gobel’s clip with Bob Hope and Dean Martin as the guests already interviewed. Of course, George says “Without me, your show would be nothing.”

And not the first time it has been tried on Ballard Street. This will not end happily, for Martin.

Um…. I think Martin’s contraption might not be his VERY best idea because…. well….
…..the front and back axles …I mean…. shouldn’t there be a…strap…. or a platform… between the… front and ba….
NO…. before he tries going down the Cherry St hill….. and the weight on his back wheels make them catch up with his….
Too late.
SusanSunshine Premium Member about 11 years ago
And I HOPE that white thing behind him is not what it looks like….
A stick handle, like on a little kid’s push toy…. because it….well, it just…no…. it’s gotta be something else…. doesn’t it?
x_Tech! Isn’t this something else you can redesign?? I’m sure Martin would buy you a few beers….

I’m going home any minute but Fenton will take your order…the morning cook is in.
I was working on a project….yesterday I installed a traffic cam on Brevity….
I thought we might need one on some busy intersection on Ballard Street if people like Martin are going to go rolling all over the place.
So I’m putting one in.

But call if you need me.
Good night, everybody.
