Growing up in the fifties had its moments, with slingshots, (many-my Dad kept taking them away) swimming ponds, and hopping freight trains. Howdy Doody was a minor pleasure.
I never watched “Howdy Doody” or “Kukla, Fran, and Ollie”. I do remember watching “Captain Kangaroo”, and I was told I watched “Romper Room” as a toddler…
One thing that I will never forget is Howdy Doody. The very first time that I saw a TV set was at Western Auto in Birmingham, Al. Had to be Jan 1953, just before my 6th birthday. Clarabell was tossing luggage onto a railroad car. Problem was that the doors on both sides of the car were open and it went right through to the ground on the other side!

I loved either Princess, but OH how I hated Clarabell! Still not sure how I feel about Flub-a-dub.

Princess SummerFallWinterSpring. I once got to see her — and the rest of the cast — in person, though I wasn’t on the show itself.
