Even when we have cell phones, we still need quick access for phone #s.

But, but, the Yellow pages are useful for all kinds of phones.

I remember the times when locksmith services called themselves “Aaaaaaaaaaa….” to be on top in the Yellow Pages.

But as for landlines – they once could be handy if the cell phone system has a blackout.

Sans Consuela, I haven’t seen ours for years. I do remember we used to have one & it was always easy to find. You could just pull on the cable & it would eventually appear from under a throw pillow, a pile of magazines, or other hiding place.

The aggressively intrusive new ads on this site are ruining it, and they seem to be crashing it as well.

Hey! I resemble that alligator. Our land line is the only home phone that works when the power goes out.

I thought I was being one of the cool kids when I went cell-only. Then I learned that less than 30 percent of residences still have landlines.

Seems to me that for them, a land line would be a one-dimensional representation of the horizon.

Normally they leave the telephone book in the mailbox or at the street end of the driveway. Beware if people are delivering them to your door. I was keeping an eye on a neighbor’s house while they were away on vacation, and noticed two guys carrying a few phone books and walking them up to doors and peering in… I intervened when I saw them go up the back steps onto the deck and peering into the sliding door… they claimed they were delivering to the door – I asked why I’d already seen them at the front door so why were they now at the back? They took off through the woods, but at least nobody saw any more of them and nobody got robbed.
