Excellent exegesis explaining the latter half of the title. Though I might have tossed in the symbolism of the harpoons…

Gosh, I think he’s right!! The third panel convinced me.

His analysis is just as good as many spouted by high school English teachers. And the harpoon symbolizes cupid’s arrow.

But the only flaw in his analysis is that the whale got fat BEFORE the “marriage.”

This is hilarious! Reminds me of grad school.

Scott forgets to mention the courage Melville showed writing about such a relationship more than 150 years before Massachusetts permitted same-sex marriage.

I say we should have at least one book report a month. It would be interesting to see how he handles Metamorphosis , for example. Oedipus Rex now, I’m not so sure.

How he dreamt this up I’ll never know but hilarious! One of the best comics out there if you ask me – although I think he hasn’t drawn anything new for the past two years (keeps reusing the same pictures), but it works!
